Full Description
Whitwell.
Moated site claimed to exist in wood. Said to be predecessor of Whitwell Hall.
R. R. Clarke (NCM).
Ordnance Survey says only drainage.
E. Rose (NAU).
Probably a well preserved moat.
R. Rickett (NAU), May 1989.
The ditches form a rectangle, 35m by 25m, but are very narrow. The enclosed area shows no evidence of occupation.
The tithe map of Whitwell, 1844, shows nothing here.
Ordnance Survey Records (S1).

January 2002. Visit.
Ditches wet and very narrow; maximum 1m wide in managed woodland used as a wildlife education centre. Staff say drainage ditches were cut in recent past.
