Summary

This is the site of the deserted medieval settlement of Denton, and a medieval moated site. Newgate House, shown on a map of 1588, is now visible as a low earthwork mound, and medieval pottery and building material have been found over the site, as well as two Neolithic querns, and Roman and Late Saxon pottery. In 1987 the remains of a timber bridge, possibly of medieval date, was found in the Den Beck.
