Summary

A well shown on an Ordnance Survey map of 1907. According to local legend a woman name Mary Bone was drowned in the well by one of the priests of St Mary's Priory, NHER 3632.

Source of priory water supply? Only a marshy pool by the river.

Surrounding wall in reasonably good condition, approximately 30cm high and 1.8m in diameter, is broken in three places.
Water reaches ground level and overflow joins River Wensum some 27m to the south.
'An ancient well...Mary Bone a Woman of the Priory (TF 82 NW/1) was drowned in the Well by one of the priests of the Priory'.
The remains of the well are in poor condition.
