Summary

In 1970 two complete pots and sherds of a third were recovered from a probable cesspit. The sherds are from a 15th century Italian vessel and the complete pots are Spanish and are contemporary. In the following year more sherds of post medieval pottery were recovered from a possible well located here.

1970. Stray Find.
From a probable cesspit at about 25ft [7.6m] deep.
Two complete medieval pots and sherds of a third.
Sherds are from an Italian Tin-glazed Earthenware jar. Initially identified as a Maiolica pot of 15th-century date but apparently subsequently reidentified as early 14th century and from the Ovieto area. See drawing (S1).
The two complete pots are Spanish imports (Merida-type ware) that were originally recorded as being of 15th-century date, although it should this was when they were believed to have been found with a Maiolica vessel of this date. See photograph (S2) and drawings (S3) and (S4).

1971. Stray Find.
Behind 3 Tuns Public House at 2/8 All Saints Green.
15th century pottery from a ?well. Delft ?Italian Albarello. Rhenish stoneware etc. Late 17th century pipes.
13th century including Grimston sherd from pit.
Little pot and less bone from very black earth - circular cut into sand. Dug out to about 3.7m (12ft) deep but no further.
Miscellaneous medieval and post medieval sherds from rest of site 12th-17th century.
