Summary

In 1998 a late Macedonian coin dating to around AD 980-1080 was found in a load of gravel delivered to an allotment at South Wootton. This coin had a four line Christian inscription.

Origin of load unknown. A. Rogerson (NLA) suggests it cannot have come far.
Late Macedonian type follis of copper, facing bust of Christ on obverse, four line inscription on the reverse: IHSUS KRISTUS BASILEU BASILE (Jesus Christ King of Kings).
Date 980-1080.
