Summary

Metal detecting between 1998 and 2001 recovered a range of objects, including a Late Saxon stirrup terminal for decorating the corners of stirrups, medieval and post medieval coins and post medieval pottery fragments and a jetton.

Full Description

November/December 1998. Metal detecting. Part of field.
Medieval and post medieval coins, medieval and post medieval metal finds.

October to November 1999. Metal detecting.
Late Saxon stirrup terminal made of cast copper alloy. A flaring U-section tube, its top is decorated on the outer convex face with a double transverse moulding. The wider end is closed and decorated on the outer face with three knobs. The inside has a lot of decayed solder. The metal is corroded to a rough brownish colour. These decorated the corner of stirrups and have only recently been recognised for what they are. 11th century. (S1).
