Summary

The site of late 19th and early 20th century gardens, much of which is now car parking and temporary classrooms. The school was built in 1874, with a curving drive leading to building, gardens divided into a series of plots, greenhouses and a detached building, possibly a sanatorium. By 1926 the grounds had been transformed, with a grid system of hedged gardens. All that remains of the late 19th and early 20th century layout are the school, the detached building, a planted bank, the west lawn and islands of garden.

Map

Norfolk Historic gardens survey grade two star.
School built on glebe land in 1874. Curving drive led to building. Gardens divided into six square plots and one triangular. Paths led around these. Various greenhouses and a 'detatched sanatorium'. By 1926 this had been transformed into a grid system of hedged gardens, some as allotments. A planted bank remains north of the house, as does the west lawn and islands of garden, but much has gone under car parks, temporary classrooms etc.
See survey (S1) for details.
