April 1999. Metal detecting. [1]
Mystery object. It has a medieval or early post medieval feel, but its formation is unknown.
A solid cast copper alloy rod with rectangular section of 6 x 8mm. One end is split with iron down the centre; one half of the split is broken off but the other half looks complete. There are, however, no rivet holes or any other means of securing the iron to the copper alloy. The opposite end is neatly tapered to a point. Length 37mm.
Ident. H. Geake.
