Monitoring of geotechnical trial pits excavated on route of proposed road improvements.
The pit at this location (Trial Pit 7) revealed a 0.35m thick clay deposit beneath the topsoil which contained coal and brick fragments and produced a single medieval pottery sherd (sand tempered with oxidised external surface). This clay deposit may be have been redeposited during recent road building.
The other trial pits excavated in the vicinity of this site revealed no archaeologically significant features or finds.
