Summary

A mid to late 17th century farmhouse with later alterations, a mid 18th century barn and various mid 19th century agricultural buildings including a cart shed and a milking parlour. The farm complex was once part of the Felbrigg estate and is an excellent example of the type of improvements that were carried out on estate farms from the 17th to the 19th centuries.

Grove Farmhouse and Attached Barn Range

September 1999. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
“Farmhouse. Mid and late C17, with C 18-c1900 alterations, probably all for the Windham family of Felbrigg Hall. Flint with red brick dressings and dentilled eaves. Part is rendered. Pantile roof with coped gables and brick central ridge and end stacks. 4-unit plan.”
Listed as example of continuous estate improvements 17th to 19th century.

Barn with Stable Block and Cattle Byres

February 2000. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
“Barn and attached stableblock and cattle byres. Barn mid C18, stableblock early C19 and byres mid C19, one with datestone WHW 1848. Red brick barn, other buildings of flint and brick. Pantile roofs with coped gables. Barn has double doors to yard and opposing doors in midstrey with catslide roof.”

Stable Block

February 2000. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
“Stableblock. C17-early C19, with mid C19 modifications. Flint with brick dressings and brick dentilled cornice. Pantile roof with coped gables. 2 storeys. Stable doors towards the yard and 2 windows with 3 pitching holes or windows above towards Back Lane. INTERIOR. Some stalls and racks survive.”

Milking Parlour

February 2000. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
“Milking parlour. Dated 1855. Flint with red brick dressings and pantile roof with coped gables. Single storey. Front facing yard has continous glazing of casements (at present boarded) and 2 doors. Datestone on gable end inscribed WHW 1855. INTERIOR has simple queen post roof.”

Cart Lodge

February 2000. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description Excerpt:
"Cartshed. Dated 1847. Flint with red brick dressings and pantile roof with coped gables. Open front of 5 bays on wooden posts. Roof of queen strut trusses wit 2 tiers of through purlins. Datestone in gable inscribed WHW 1847. Attached 3-bay implement shed in similar materials with one side open.”
