1849. Stray find.
Neolithic polished stone 'celt' [axehead].
Drawing by Winter in (S1), see poor-quality copy (S2). At the time it was drawn it was in the possession of B. Taylor of Swaffham. It was apparently describedas a "small ancient mallet" that had been ploughed up.
According to (S3) this was actually recovered in 18[5]2, with two others found at same time. Therefore potentially an axehead hoard?
Information from (S4).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 3 July 2018.

Study of (S5) verifies the information above.

Could this be the polished stone axehead from Pentney that is now in the Norwich Castle Museum's Fitch Collection (NWHCM : 1894.76.813)? The description in the museum's records would appear to be consistent with (S2).
P. Watkins (HES), 3 July 2018.
