Summary

A late medieval or early post medieval large copper alloy hook plate from a book clasp and a fragment of an early 17th century silver decorated dress pin were found at a metal detecting rally. The pin is similar to other examples from the Netherlands, Norwich and London.

Late medieval/early post medieval large hook plate from a book clasp, made of sheet copper alloy and 56 x 18mm. One end flares slightly and is cut into two lobes each with an copper alloy rivet; the other end is cut and bent into a hook. Near the hooked end is a third copper alloy rivet, and near the shaped end is a large ring and dot motif. The rivets hold a rectangular underplate.

Post medieval fragment of silver head dress pin, of sub rectangular section and decorated on both faces. Just below the break at the top is a square panel enclosing a relief rosette; then come some longitudinal grooves, then a zone of zigzag, then some more longitudinal grooves. Both breaks are fresh. These pins have been found in the Netherlands and from Norwich and London, and date to the early 17th century.
