1998. Metal-detecting [1].
A very unusual and very large example of a class object known as a 'hooked tag'. This example has a cast back plate, circular and 27mm in diameter with a scalloped edge (14 lobes) and a raised rim within. On the reverse are soldered a U-shaped loop and a sturdy complete sharp hook. A central rivet holds on the front 3 separate plates, all deeply cut into 8 lobes which each have a repusse boss. The rivet has a hemispherical head so that the whole thing resembles a flower. Traces of white-metal coating. 16th to 17th century.
