Summary

A mound and possible ring ditch, of unknown date, are visible as soilmarks, cropmarks and a low earthwork, on aerial photographs and visualised lidar data. They may relate to the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, but are perhaps more likely to be of natural origin. The lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2018), and any earthworks may still survive.

The undated, possibly Bronze Age, ring ditch described above, together with an internal mound, is visible as soilmarks, cropmarks and a low earthwork on aerial photographs (S1-S3) and visualised lidar data (S4). They may relate to the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, but are perhaps more likely to be of natural origin. On the visualised lidar data (S4), the mound can be seen to lie at the north end of an area of uneven ground, incorporating several other amorphous mounds, probably features of geomorphological origin. The possible ring ditch is only clearly defined on the aerial photographs taken in March 1972 (S1), on a part of the photograph which is unrectifiable. For this reason, and the uncertain interpretation of the features, the site has been mapped by extent. The lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2018), and any earthworks may still survive.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 12 June 2025.
