Full Description

May 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The soilmarks of a post medieval tree ring or enclosed copse are visible on aerial photographs within the grounds of Burlington Hall (S2). The site is centred on TG 3708 1023. This feature is marked on historic maps, including 1838 Burlington Tithe map (S3) and is still marked as late as the Ordnance Survey second edition maps (1902-7, 25 inch) (S4). A ditch and an outer bank, 56m in total diameter, enclosed the circular area of trees. Other examples of these circular stands of trees still survive in the park grounds.
S. Massey (NMP), 23 May 2007.
