Summary

Metal detecting on this site in 1998 recovered a complete Roman bow and fantail brooch, dating to the 1st or 2nd century AD.

Before 10 February 1998. Metal detecting.
Roman wonderfully complete Bow and Fantail brooch, (S1).
Large chain loop above tubular wings, with groove at either end. Protruding bow has two median grooves tapering to middle of bow; transverse ridge at junction of bow and fantail. Fantail has two equally-spaced vertical panels, both with a zigzag inner edge, which would probably have originally held enamel. Complete pin and catchplate on reverse.
1st - 2nd century.
