Summary

This mid 17th century timber framed building is clad in brick 18th century. It has two storeys, dormers and a bell based gable roof.

Mid 17th century timber frame clad in brick 18th century. Two storeys and dormers. Bellbased gable roof. Openings 19th and 20th century. Ridge stack to north, gable stack to east on extension. Elliptical stair turret on rear of No. 55 to 57.
Interior of No. 53 has two ground floor rooms with heavy bridging beams; chamfered midwall rail in south room, inglenook fireplace with bressumer. First floor has exposed studs, bridging beams and roof with windbracing and one tier clasped purlins. No. 55 and 57 opened out; roof on 55 as 53, but 57 has two tiers of taper tenoned purlins and trenched collars, even though it is stated this was once part of 55.

No. 53 was briefly inspected by E. Rose (NLA), in 1980s but none of the internal details given above were exposed at the time.
