Summary

Metal-detecting in 2000 recovered an interesting collection of Roman finds at this location, including a complete copper alloy bowl dating to the 1st or 2nd century AD. Roman pottery sherds, tile fragments, coins and brooches were found in the vicinity of this bowl, along with metal-working debris and animal bones - suggesting this had been an area of Roman settlement. Other finds recovered included Late Iron Age and post-medieval coins, a Late Saxon stirrup mount and medieval lead pot mends. Fieldwalking in 2024 recovered additional Roman pottery sherds.
