Summary

A circular pit lined with wood was revealed when a pavement collapsed in 2001. Its purpose is unknown, though it has been suggested that the pit housed an early electricity supply pole.

Purpose unknown; possible suggestion, some sort of water control feature.

One suggestion is an early electricity supply pole, there having been insulation around the void.
