Full Description
19 July 1996. NLA air photography.
Palimpsest cropmark site containing two enclosures.
One is a sub-rectangular enclosure with a co-joined curvilinear feature. The second, larger enclosure is rectangular and has at least six co-joined rectilinear enclosures. Many of these form a 'ladder' against the western edge of the enclosure.
Within the enclosure itself are several parallel linear features, possibly part of a trackway.
In addition are three distinct areas of land division, possibly traces of field system. The most northerly of which appears to be organised around a wide trackway feature.
S. Massey (NLA).
March 2006. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of a sub-rectangular enclosure are visible on aerial photographs (S1). The grid reference for this enclosure has been altered to TF 7243 3560 from TF 7245 3564. Other enclosure and ditch cropmarks previously recorded under this NHER number are now recorded separately (NHER 43371, 43372 and 43373). The sub-rectangular enclosure lies on a roughly northwest to southeast axis and measures 75m by 41m externally. It is defined on three sides by an irregular ditch that measures up to 3.5m across. The southwest side of the enclosure is defined by a narrow ditch. Small gaps are present in the ditch on the northwest and southeast sides of the enclosure, but it is unclear if these are deliberate entrances. The northwest gap appears to be blocked by a narrow ditch. A curvilinear ditch extends northwards from the northwest corner of the enclosure forming an irregular annexe measuring at least 45m long by 20m wide. Other narrow linear ditches are also associated with the enclosure, but it is not clear if they are contemporary with it. The date of this enclosure is uncertain.
J. Albone (NMP), 15 March 2006.
