Summary

An evaluation excavation in 2001 uncovered Roman linear features and pits. The linear features were at right angles to the route of a Roman road, and were possibly boundary markers. Pottery fragments found ranged from the Iron Age to the post medival period, but the majority were Roman.

August 2001. Trial Trench.
Single trench excavated on proposed extension to residential dwelling. Contexts 1 to 26.
Revealed several Roman features that were probably plot boundaries as well as postholes and pits.

October 2001. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks for extension to residential dwelling.
Three possible ditches were observed and a sample excavated in a trench to the south of the site. A possible pit was observed and a sample excavated in a trench to the north. No finds were recovered from the site.
