Summary

Metal detecting in 2001 recovered a selection of Late Saxon brooches. All examples were of an equal-armed cross fleury design. A subseqent fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey in 2015 recovered a small number of finds including Neolithic/Bronze Age worked flints and Roman and post-medieval pottery sherds.

Late Saxon Ae brooch (S2) in the form of an equal-armed cross fleury with broken pierced lug for pin and catch-plate on reverse. Dimensions of 30 x 32mm.

Two brooch fragments of identical form to complete brooch found on site earlier in year.

November 2013. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey. Expanded to whole field [2].
Field survey of proposed extension to Norton Subcourse Quarry (Extraction Phase 15).
The small assemblage of finds recovered comprised:
4 Neolithic or Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age worked flints, including 3 flakes and 1 fragment.
1 Roman pottery sherd.
3 post-medieval pottery sherds.
No concentrations of material were identified.
The metal-detecting recovered only modern objects and other recent debris.
