Full Description
25 July 1996. NLA air photography.
Cropmark of a small enclosure to north of farm buildings. An enclosure or paddock is marked on the map which no longer exists, it may be that the two are related although the smaller feature appears to cut across the mapped enclosure.
S. Massey (NLA), 23 November 2001.
September 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Possible medieval to post medieval boundary ditches, field boundaries and sections of possible enclosures (see above) are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs taken in 1946 (S1-S2). Some of the features are visible on the relatively recent visualised lidar data (S5) and most likely still survive as low earthworks. Other features have been levelled and are visible as cropmarks on more recent aerial photographs (1996, 2006 and 2022; S3-S4 and S6). The features may relate to medieval to post medieval boundary ditches, field boundaries and sections of possible enclosures. It is also possible that some of features may relate to post medieval or modern drainage ditches or natural features. The mapped features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps such as S7 and S8. Further unmapped earthworks are visible across the area on the visualised lidar data (S5). It is likely that these earthworks relate to modern drainage and natural features. However, it is possible that some of unmapped features could be archaeological in origin. The monument polygon has been amended to the extent of the features as visible on S1-S6.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 29 September 2023.
