Full Description
25 July 1996. NLA air photogrpahy.
Cropmarks indicate a large rectangular post built structure, approximately 25m long, 10m wide.
The long axes appear to be defined by 6 to 7 large pits or post holes. On the west end a central post/pit can be identified, also at the west end is a large pit like feature.
This possible timber building is situated immediately north of the Roman road (NHER 3597), although it does not share it's alignment.
It is possible that the building overlies the road's ditch, suggesting a post Roman date.
This building may be Saxon in date, possibly Late Saxon.
S. Massey (NLA), 22 November 2001.
