Map

25 June 1996. NLA air photography.
Cropmarks can clearly be seen of a curving boundary ditch surrounding the cropmark remains of a small wood (tree remains showing like pits). This feature creates an area that is approximately half an oval in shape, with the one flat side abutting the field boundary to the northwest. (A Few further pits/tree remains are visible outside the ditch).
Crossing the field approximately southwest to northeast is a ditch cropmark, presumably originally for drainage, and this links to further 'channels' (also showing as cropmarks).
There is also a cropmark of a trackway running across the field (approximately northwest to southeast) towards Calvely Hall.
It seems likely that all this was part of parkland, perhaps associated with the hall and that the wood's boundary ditch is some form of tree enclosure to protect the trees from animals (deer etc).
All of these features can be seen on (S1) and the wood still remains in 1976 photographs (TG 0105/C - D) (S2).
