Full Description
11 August 1997. NLA air photography (S1).
Cropmarks are showing a ring ditch at NGR TG 3010 0787.
As well as this three sides of a rectilinear enclosure are visible with the northern most side bisecting the ring ditch.
Linear features can also be seen.
H. Clare (NLA), 2 November 2001.
The central grid reference of this site has been altered from TG 3006 0785 to TG 3009 0786. The rectilinear enclosure and linears previously recorded under this number are now under NHER 49560.
June 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks and earthworks of a Bronze Age round barrow are visible on aerial photographs to the north of Ferry Lane, Postwick (S1-S3). The site is centred on TG 3009 0786.
The ring ditch is 33m in diameter and is extremely broad, up to 3m wide, although this may be a product of the cropmark formation conditions rather than reflective of the actual width of the origin ditch. In 1953 this former barrow is still visible as a slight earthwork (S2) and this is possibly still detectable in 1970 (S3), where the remains of the barrow mound are visible as a central lighter sub-circular feature, 16.5m across.
This former barrow appears to be overlain by a series of boundary ditches (NHER 49560) of unknown, but possibly Roman date.
S. Massey (NMP), 28 June 2007.
