Full Description
8 July 1996. NLA air photography.
Cropmark features visible.
Cropmarks of two rectilinear enclosures can be seen at National Grid Reference TM 0606 9135. These appear to line up with current boundaries among the houses located just to the south, but this could just be coincidence. Located slightly to the northwest of these two enclosures is a smaller rectangular enclosure (National Grid Reference TM 0598 9145). It seems likely that these enclosures date to the medieval/post medieval period though this is not certain. In addition to these cropmarks, many linear features can be seen in the area/fields surrounding them, most of which are old field boundaries clearly marked on (S1).
H. Clare (NLA), 24 September 2001.
June 2012. Norfolk NMP.
Cropmarks of the two enclosures described above are visible on aerial photographs (S2), centred on TM 0605 9136. It is likely that the ditches aligned with the current boundaries are simply extensions of field boundaries visible on the Ordnance Survey second edition map (S1) and therefore post medieval in date.
The smaller rectangular enclosure mentioned above, at TM 0598 9145, which measures 24m by 10m, and appears to exhibit internal divisions is difficult to be certain of as it is rather ephemeral in nature.
All the other linear features visible in the area clearly relate to field boundaries visible on the Ordnance survey map (S1), apart from two possible diagonal linear features to the north east which were rather faint and may relate to agricultural activity. Also, linear cropmarks were visible to the south east, centred on TM 0597 9124 (S3), which were also aligned broadly similar to the post medieval field divisions, but have been mapped as they did not appear on any of the historic map sources.
E. Bales (NMP), 14th June 2012.
