Map

Site contains cropmarks of NHER 15916 and findspots NHER 34923, 34924, 34925, 35127.

15 August 1995. NLA aerial photography.
A ring ditch can be seen which overlaps both fields at NGR TG 3849 3031, as well as linear features/enclosure. There also appear to be some pits evident as cropmarks.
H. Clare (NLA), 5 July 2001.

28 June 1996. NLA aerial photography.
Ring ditch still visible.
Whole field covered with linear features, which display no obvious pattern as most are masked by geology.
S. Massey (NLA), 9 October 2001.

September 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Some cropmarks previously recorded under this number have been moved to NHER 38774 (ring ditch), 38775 (double ring ditch), 38777 (road) and 16015. The central grid reference for these cropmarks has been changed from TG 3850 3028 to TG 3865 3010.
Cropmarks of trackways and field boundary ditches forming incomplete field systems of undated, probably Iron Age to Roman and medieval to post medieval date, are visible on aerial photographs ((S1) to (S8)). The prevailing alignment of these cropmarks is broadly northwest to southeast and southwest to northeast, although more than one phase is present. Some ditches have a similar alignment to the surviving post medieval field pattern and are likely to relate to field boundaries of this period. In particular a number of westsouthwest to eastnortheast ditches between TG 3837 2998 and TG 3845 3003 and also from TG 3851 3006 to TG 3867 3012 appear to run parallel to the line of an extant track to their south. Further ditches on a similar alignment are present to the south of the track. The junction of two possible trackways is located at TG 3875 3008. This appears to form part of a field system arranged along a the northwest to southeast trackway. Further trackways, aligned southwest to northeast, are located between TG 3855 2995 and TG 3866 3009 and also from TG 3870 3023 and TG 3877 3028. The date of these field systems is not certain, although it is possible that they are Iron Age to Roman or medieval.
J. Albone (NMP), 6 September 2004.

October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
The fragmentary north-east to south-west aligned cropmarks running between TG 3881 3030 and TG 3895 3045 fell within the area examined but no corresponding anomalies were identified.
See NHER 65683 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 21 August 2025.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
A trench placed to coincide with the fragmentary north-east to south-west aligned cropmarks running between TG 3881 3030 and TG 3895 3045 revealed no corresponding sub-surface remains.
See NHER 65683 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 21 August 2025.
