Full Description
19 July 1996. NLA aerial photography. Cropmarks visible at Elm Farm.
The multiple linear features are likely to represent field boundaries, although it is possible a very large, straight sided, rectangular enclosure is also present. Only one rounded corner of the enclosure is visible. Within the center of the field is a possible ring ditch. However this feature appears as a negative cropmark whilst all the ditches are positive. Its is possible that this is a geological phenomenon and the feature is a ditch. But equally this may actually be a stone structure such as a small Roman temple.
There is a possible second ring ditch to the south, showing less clearly.
M. Brennand (NLA), 22 August 2001.
March 2023. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The features discussed above (see above) have now been recorded separately along with further features identified as part of the Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping Project. The ring ditch is now recorded as part of NHER 67051, the rectangular enclosure is now recorded as part of NHER 67058 and the linear features possibly relating to medieval to post medieval field boundaries are now recorded as part of NHER 67059.
