Map

15 July 1996. NLA air photography.
Cropmarks of two partial rectilinear enclosures, one located at TG 2887 3143, the other is framed by the southwest corner of the field.
Several other linears are visible, also post medieval field boundaries recorded on the 1st Edition Ordnance Survey map (1890) are visible.
S. Massey (NLA), 18 October 2001.

June 2017. Aerial Imagery Interpretation.
Assessment of aerial imagery along proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
This study identified a range of linear anomalies at this location (Site 262), although it is clear that the majority correspond with former field boundaries depicted on the North Walsham tithe map (S1).
The exceptions include adjoining west-north-west to east-south-east and north-north-east to south-south-west aligned anomalies in the south-west corner of the field that potentially represent a small enclosure (presumably one of those noted above) and a similarly aligned anomaly to the east. The position and orientation of these features does though mean that they are most likely also post-medieval in date.
Of much greater interest is a north-east to south-west aligned linear anomaly running between TG 2885 3155 and TG 2873 3139 that turns to the south-east at both end – suggesting it potentially represents part of a rectilinear enclosure. The orientation of this enclosure and its clear lack of any relationship to the late post-medieval field system both suggest it likely represents an earlier feature.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 14 October 2024.

October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
The only cropmarks associated with evidence for surviving sub-surface remains were those that related to the late post-medieval field boundaries. There was therefore no evidence for surviving remains associated with what appeared to be elements of an earlier rectilinear enclosure on a markedly different alignment to those of the post-medieval boundaries.
Information from draft report. See NHER 65838 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 15 October 2024.

October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
One of the two trenches excavated at this location coincided with a short north-west to south-east aligned cropmark mapped at TG 2869 3160. There was no evidence for corresponding sub-surface remains.
Information from draft report. See NHER 65838 for further details.
