Summary

A World War Two Type 22 pillbox is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs, is recorded by documentary sources and has been visited on the ground. It formed part of the outer defences for the ‘nodal point’ of Acle.

There seems to be some confusion between NHER 16803 and 36661, which are pillboxes about 280m apart. Some of NHER 16803 description may refer to this site.

NMP mapping has led to the alteration of the central grid reference of the site from TG 4117 0995 to TG 4116 0992.

The World War Two Type 22 pillbox described above is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs (S1)-(S6). It has also been recorded as part of the Defence Areas Project (S7), and is depicted by modern Ordnance Survey 1:2500 mapping.
