Full Description
August 2001. Air Photo Interpretation.
Examination of NLA aerial photogaphy taken in July 1996 (S1) [1].
Linear features visible as cropmarks, but also very confusing geology. Major visible feature is likely to be a drain. Less distinct are the probable remains of a field system and possible group of pits.
M. Brennand (NLA), 21 August 2001.
June 2017. Aerial Imagery Interpretation.
Assessment of aerial imagery along proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
This study identified two fragmentary cropmarks at TG 2012 2895 (part of a group recorded as Site 43 'field system').
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
Although the majority of the cropmarks identifed at this location fell within the surveyed area no evidence for corresponding sub-surface remains was identified.
Information from draft report. See NHER 65890 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
This work saw the excavation of trench positioned to coincide with the two fragmentary cropmarks at TG 2012 2895, only the northernmost of which was found to associated with a surviving ditch.
No finds were recovered from this feature.
Information from draft report. See NHER 65890 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
March 2023. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of possible medieval to post medieval field boundaries (see above) are seen on aerial photographs (S1-S3). The features likely date to the medieval to post-medieval period. However, an earlier, Iron Age to Roman date for the features cannot be ruled out. Multiple cropmark pits (not mapped) can also be seen across the area on the aerial photographs (S1-S3). These features are most likely geological in origin. However, it is possible that some of the pits could relate to archaeological features.
The large drain noted in 2001 originally recorded as part of this record has now been recorded as part of NHER 67068.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 31 March 2023.
