Map

The ditch features to the west of the possible medieval to post medieval hall are now recorded as part of NHER 64317 along with further features identified as part of THE Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) project.

15 July 1996. NLA air photography.
Complex series of cropmarks, having the appearance of positive response, situated within a large area of negative response. The layout of the features looks like that of a hall or great house complex with its associated building ranges and gardens. The rectangular positive 'blocks' may be gardens, rather than structures, arranged around the buildings.
To the west two ditches which appear to define an entrance or trackway are visible. It is not clear whether they are related to the 'block' cropmarks.
S. Massey (NLA), 12 October 2001.

January 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of a series of pit and ditch features (see above), of a possible medieval to post medieval date, are seen on aerial photographs S1-S3. The features have been previously suggested (see above) to relate to a Medieval to post medieval hall or great house. It is also possible that the features may have related to a post medieval brickwork or a possible area of extraction. The features are not visible on the readily available historic maps (for example S4). The ditch features to the west of the pits have now been recorded as part of NHER 64317 along with further possible multiphase boundaries.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 18 January 2022.
