Summary

Fieldwalking at this location in 2001 recovered prehistoric worked flints and Iron Age pottery sherds and identified a substantial concentration of Roman pottery. Subsequent metal-detecting between 2001 and 2021 recovered prehistoric worked flints; Roman pottery sherds; undated copper alloy metal-working debris; Roman coins and a number of other, Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. These metal finds included an Iron Age bow brooch; a Roman harness fitting and lead steelyard weight; an Early Saxon brooch; medieval and post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval dagger-scabbard chape and lead spindle whorl and a post-medieval tap handle, furniture handle escutcheon, lead window came and perforated lead vessel of uncertain function.
