Full Description
This site has previously been confused with NHER 36405, refer to this record if details to not correspond as expected.
2 August 1995. NLA air photography (S1).
Cropmarks of quite irregular and asymmetric rectilinear enclosure. Probably Late Iron Age or Roman in date. Several linear features run diagonally through the enclosure. Two of which are parallel and may be part of a trackway. These linears do not appear to be related to the enclosure.
S. Massey (NLA), 3 August 2001.
19 June 1996. NLA air photography (S2).
Cropmarks of enclosure clearly visible. The site appears to have been cut by recent developments and woodland, although the shape suggests it would have been rectilinear originally. Cropmarks of a rectilinear enclosure with two entrances/causeways. Only part of the enclosure is visible, the western end is masked by geological patterning. Several linears features can be identified within the interior, although they do not appear to be related to it directly.
S. Massey (NLA), 13 August 2001.
28 June 1996. NLA air photography (S3).
Rectilinear enclosure cropmark still visible. Also trackway to east.
S. Massey (NLA), 14 September 2001.
November 2009. Norfolk NMP.
An undated enclosure ditch is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1)-(S4), on land to the north of Home Farm, Horsford, centred on TG 1989 1507.
The enclosure measures approximately 58m by 55m externally, with a central division running from TG 1990 1509 to TG 1989 1504, which coincides with a field boundary depicted on the Tithe Map of 1841 (S5). It is therefore possible that this enclosure, and the possible trackway (NHER 53241) recorded just over 50m to the east, which is parallel to this feature, date to the medieval to post medieval period. However, these features are also aligned in a similar way to the possible Iron Age to Roman enclosures (NHER 18126, NHER 53239) to the southwest and northwest, and it is therefore possible that they are Iron Age to Roman in date.
E. Bales (NMP), November 2009.
