Full Description
Before 1907. Stray Find.
Ploughed up not far from the Priory (NHER 4096):
2 Neolithic/Bronze Age perforated stone axe hammers.
Both now part of the Spalding Gentlemen's Society's A.C. Savin Collection (Nos 73 and 74). See drawings (S1) and (S2) - received from N. Moore (Lincoln Museum).
These objects are noted in (S3) and are the reason that Castle Acre is listed in (S4) as one of the locations that had produced prehistoric stone objects implements prior to 1907.
Information from (S5).
Petrology of object No 73 identified as Group XVIII quartz dolerite (N201) and that of No 74 as olivine dolerite (N202) - see list in (S6).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 6 August 2018.
