Map

28 June1996. NLA aerial photography.
Cropmarks show a trackway defined by quite sinuous ditches to the western edge of the site. The trackway appears to overlie a curvilinear feature.
A second, more regular, trackway is located to the eastern end of the site.
Several other linear and curvilinear features are visible.
The southern end of the site appears to show a field system of quite random layout.
S. Massey (NLA), 17 September 2001.

September 2004. Norfolk NMP.
Some cropmarks previously recorded under this number, including the trackway, have been moved to NHER 38769.
The central grid reference for these cropmarks has been changed from TG 3810 3005 to TG 3820 3000.
Cropmarks of three or four undated overlapping multi-phase coaxial field systems are visible on aerial photographs (S1 to S2). The first of these is centred around a northwest to southeast ditch at TG 3810 2996. This ditch extends intermittently for up to 96m with two ditches joining it from the southwest. A third southwest to northeast ditch on the same alignment to these is also present further to the southeast. A northwest to southeast ditch is present 110m to the east of and parallel to the main ditch. The second fragmentary field system is arranged along a ditch between TG 3817 2998 and TG 3830 2993. Two ditches are arranged perpendicular to this ditch on its northeast side and one on its southwest side. A fourth ditch is aligned parallel to these, forming a T-junction at the northwest end of the main ditch. The third field system is arranged on a slightly more east to west alignment and lies to the south of an intermittent ditch between TG 3817 3001 and TG 3833 2998. A ditch extends south from this line for 100m with single ditches leading off to the east and west parallel to the intermittent main ditch. An isolated section of ditch at TG 3812 2991 probably represents a continuation of the western ditch. The fourth possible field system is represented by a series of eastnortheast to westsouthwest aligned ditches across the whole area of these cropmarks. A single ditch running perpendicular to these at TG 3826 3000 may indicate that they form part of a field system. The date of these field systems is not certain. The fourth field system is aligned perpendicular to the modern road and some element appear to be represented on the second edition 25 inch Ordnance Survey map (S3). It is likely that the other field systems are of Roman and medieval to early post medieval date. North to south and east to west ditches overlapping the northern part of these field systems belong to a further coaxial field system which continues to the north and is recorded as NHER 38769. It is possible that these field systems includes elements of domestic settlement activity, but these are not well-defined by the cropmarks.
J. Albone (NMP), 1 September 2004.
