Summary

A medieval rim sherd from a pottery bowl was found in the garden of this property. This piece was wheel thrown and unglazed with three deep and wavy grooves for decoration.

Before 4 October 2001. Found in garden.
Medieval rim sherd of pottery bowl, wheel thrown, unglazed, reduced fired, slightly sandy earthenware, diameter of 210mm, decorated with three deep and non-horizontal (slightly wavy) grooves. Rim is round section and expands internally. A local product (exact source unknown). The fabric is too fine for Grimston, the main local manufacturer of unglazed bowls. Probably 12th century.
