January 1999. Metal detecting. Northwest corner of field known as East Fen.
Early post medieval copper alloy knife tang end cap (rectangular section 10 x 5mm) with remains of iron tang in socket. Shaped like a short gun stock but with pronounced knop. On both broad faces, now partly obscured by ferrous deposits, are transverse grooves, perhaps once inlaid. On one face five grooves, two of which are joined by a diagonal to form a reversed N. On the other face two. Length 21mm.
