Summary

Metal detecting in this area during 2002-06 recovered a variety of objects. Finds included prehistoric flint artefacts, a Late Bronze Age copper alloy socketed axe, an Iron Age button and loop fastener, Roman coins and brooches, an Early Saxon wrist clasp and glass bead, three Late Saxon bridle cheekpieces and pieces of medieval and post medieval metalwork.

Site extended to whole field.
2 Neolithic worked flints; 1 scraper and 1 probable polished axe fragment reused as a core and a hammerstone.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age flint barbed and tanged arrowhead.
1 Beaker-type flint thumb nail scraper.
1 ?Bronze Age flint knife.
16 prehistoric worked flints, including 4 scrapers, 1 notched flake, 3 retouched flake, 7 flakes, 3 blade-like flakes.
1 prehistoric pebble mace. See drawing (S1). These objects are not closely datable having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
3 Roman coins.
1 Roman puddingstone quern fragment.
5 Roman pottery sherds including 2 greyware and 3 storage jar.
1 Early Saxon drum-shaped polychrome glass bead (6th-7th century).
2 Late Saxon metal objects; 1 stirrup terminal (11th century) and strap-end (10th-11th century).
