Summary

Fieldwalking in this area during 2002 recovered sherds of medieval and post medieval pottery, post medieval tiles, a post medieval wig curler and a post medieval coin. A systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting survey undertaken in 2004 recovered a moderate quantity of prehistoric struck flint (including cores, blades, and scrapers) and small quantities of medieval and post-medieval pottery, a medieval harness fitting, post-medieval ceramic building material and metal objects, and an undated lava quern fragment.

Medieval unglazed body sherds.
Late post medieval floor tile and pantile fragments, and a basalt ware sherd.
Pipeclay wig curler, length 51mm, diameter at centre 15mm, at ends 22mm.
Illegible farthing, ?William IV.

February 2004. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey. Contexts 1-172.
Finds recovered included:
76 prehistoric struck flints, including 5 cores, 3 blades, and 3 scrapers.
16 burnt flint fragments.
4 medieval pottery sherds.
2 medieval to post-medieval pottery sherds
17 post-medieval pottery sherds and 8 fragments ceramic building material.
1 medieval gilded copper-alloy belt/harness fitting.
1 post-medieval finger ring, 1 buckle, 1 lead cloth seal
Undated metal objects including metal-working debris.
1 lava quern fragment and a small quantity of animal bone.
31 objects of non-archaeological value.
The flint collected from this site was not particularly diagnostic or datable, but it most likely dates to the later prehistoric period (Later Neolithic to Iron Age). Two small scrapers may be Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age.
