Full Description
September 2002. Norfolk NMP.
The cropmarks of a road or trackway of at least post medieval date is visible on aerial photographs, (S1) and (S2). It is possible that the track has earlier medieval origins. The route is marked on the 1825 Burnham Westgate Enclosure Map (S3), but appears to have gone out of use by the 1837 Tithe map or has not been depicted (S4). The northern end of the track joins up with the remaining 'Back Lane'.
The site consists of a linear bank and ditch running in an interrupted line from TF 8349 4159 to TF 8293 4094, for approximately 850m. The width of the parched linear or bank varies from 3m to 9m. At points along its length, it is flanked by a ditch on either side. These are up to 2m wide.
S. Massey (NMP), 27 September 2002.
