Map

May 2002. Norfolk NMP.
A rectangular sunken feature at TF 8075 4258, 22m by 16.5m, visible on 1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1). This may be a large pit, although the angular and regular shape suggests something more structural. It is possible that it is a sunken-floored structure of some sort, although it is very large. It is possible that a structure of some sort stood in this location, leaving a slightly sunken, waterlogged area. The date of this feature is unknown, although it may be medieval or later. To the immediate north of this at TF 8075 4261 is a more amorphous, sub-circular pit-like feature, 16m across. Features such as these can be found across this area, the majority of which are pits, ponds or solution hollows, however, the regularity and rectilinear nature of these could imply they are archaeological.
S. Massey (NMP), 17 May 2002.
