NHER 26944 (Monument record) - Undated ring ditch and linear feature

1946 RAF aerial photographs (S1) appear to show the slight earthworks of a ring ditch, located at TF 6976 4017. It is 17m in diameter and approximately 1m wide. This ditch has a causeway to the south, 7m wide. No accompanying mound is visible. As this is grassland near to a farm building, it is possible that this is an animal tether ring. Between TF 6977 4013 and TF 6980 4018, there is a stretch of ditch approximately 58m long and up 3.5m wide. Within this area of the grassland there are many braided, cut linear features that correspond with modern paths, visible on 1987 BKS aerial photographs (S2). These slightly hollowed out tracks all stem from the funnel entrance from Spring meadow pits, following the parish boundary. None of the other hollows were mapped as they can be seen as active tracks in 1946 and therefore may be of relatively modern origin. Although it is likely that this route has quite a long history, dating back to at least the medieval landscape.
