Summary

Metal detecting here in 2002 recovered a star rowel from a medieval rowel spur. This example was heavily worn through use, with only nine of the twenty original points surviving.

Medieval Ae star rowel from rowel spur, large (diameter 68mm) with nine of originally twenty lozenge-shaped points, pierced by irregular oval central hole, the shape possibly resulting from much wear during use. The size indicates a date in the late 14th century. See for comparison (S1).
