Summary

Archaeological work between 2003 and 2005 revealed a possible medieval revetment, as well as a cobbled surface, a later but probably associated brick wall, a 16th century brick building and post medieval pits were found. Medieval and post medieval pottery and 13th century leather shoe sole fragments were among the finds.

February 2003-March 2005. Trial Trenching and Excavation.
Evaluation of proposed redevelopment area in 2003 (Trenches 1-6), following by archaeological monitoring and targeted excavation during site clearance and construction work in 2005 (Area A).
A number of timbers (some re-used boat timbers) appeared to represent a displaced revetment dated to the 14th-15th centuries. A medieval cobbled surface, a later but probably associated brick wall, a 16th century brick building and post medieval pits were also found.
Medieval and post medieval pottery and 13th century leather sole fragments were among the finds.
