Summary

An air raid shelter, a loopholed wall and an emergency water tank (for fires started by bombing raids, etc.) are reported to have been located in this part of Acle during World War Two. Only the water tank has been identified on 1940s aerial photographs of the area.

(S1) mentions a loopholed wall, site only vaguely known; but (S2) notes this location (now back of Cumpsteys Butchers) also site of air raid shelter and water tank for fires.

Of the World War Two defences described above, only the static emergency water tank is visible on the consulted aerial photographs, on (S3)-(S4) at TG 4018 1050. It is visible as a circular structure, similar to those identified in some numbers at Great Yarmouth.
