January/February 2003. Metal detecting.
Early post medieval copper alloy mount from ?ewer, cast in the round in the form of a lion, with incised detail defining eyes, mouth, nose, mane and hindquarters and tail, the body with concave arch beneath, forelegs broken, stump of integral rivet beneath rump, at least 30 x 27mm. Possibly from the handle or lid of a ewer for gripping or lifting. ?16th century.
