Map

April 2003. Norfolk NMP.
These features are only possibly the result of the salt production process, and may equally be natural sand formations, accumulated on the edge of the former saltmarsh.
These photographs (S1) are the only images consulted upon which these features appear.
The group comprises of three amorphous or floriform areas of light coloured soil or cropmark (S1), although the westernmost two features were almost certainly originally one. The easternmost feature (centre: TF 5954 2336) is irregular in plan, and is uncharacteristically large, with an east to west length of 275m. The westernmost two features (centres: TF 5934 2332 and TF 5922 2332) are irregular in plan, with maximum east to west dimensions of 92m and 111m. These features are situated approximately 450m to the north of the Sea Bank (NHER 2187), which may actually be a medieval feature, rather than Late Saxon, at this point. The features therefore probably post date the Sea Bank and pre date the post medieval Sea defences to the north. If these features are Saltern mounds, they are likely to be late medieval in date.
M. Brennand (NMP), 1 April 2003.
