Map

March 2003. Norfolk NMP.
The feature is sub-rectangular in shape, with rounded corners (S1). The earthwork is aligned with its long axis in an approximately east to west direction, and has a length of 55m and a width of 20m (S1).
The purpose or function of this feature is unclear. It is not certain that the whole of the feature is visible, and it may actually represent a short section of truncated bank, although this seems unlikely. It is also, unfortunately, unlikely to be a prehistoric long barrow. It is not morphologically similar to any of the saltern mounds within the vicinity, and salt production is unlikely to be the cause of the earthwork although it may have been truncated or landscaped after its abandonment. The shape of the feature is reminiscent of a pillow mound, although there are no others known in this general area.
M. Brennand (NMP), 12 March 2003.
